The Senator is a limited annual release from Proof and Wood Ventures, the Bardstown, Kentucky blending house founded by Redemption Whiskey creator Dave Schmier. A small-batch mingling of roughly 10–20 select barrels of 95% rye distilled at MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, aged a minimum of six years and bottled uncut at barrel proof — this batch at 116, with distillation and bottling dates printed on the label. Expect floral caramel, cinnamon, and mint on the nose, dry oak, candied orange, toffee, and clove on the palate, and a long, dry finish of leather, tobacco leaf, and lingering rye spice.
